OneWater ensures that families continue to be supported after they receive their filtration systems. Local Nicaraguans deliver and teach families how to use their systems upon receipt, and local Nicaraguans continue to re-educate and troubleshoot any issues or questions that may arise. By using a local leadership model, we have found that 99% of our filters are used properly and maintained over their lifespan.
Economic Impact
Sustainable clean water brings $40 a month of saved wages to families. Additionally, each family saves around 900 hours by eliminating time spent carrying or cleaning water and attending to water-related health issues. The time and money saved allow families to develop new means of self-reliance.
Education
We have developed a clear curriculum to ensure each family knows the importance of clean water. Each worker is trained in teaching proper water storage, system use, and consumption. Families complete this education prior to receiving their filters. Proper education is key in allowing families to realize the benefits of clean water.
Local Leadership Model
Our team provides opportunities for community members to become leaders (Water Captains). Water captains have the responsibility of overseeing small sections of their community and are considered the go-to support resources for families with filters.
